This year’s result is particularly disappointing for Qantas given its 5th place last year. This result is a real come down for Qantas. Qantas was even beat out by Fiji Airways as the best airline in Australia /Pacific.

Qantas’ plummet in the annual rankings follows a post pandemic deterioration in its operational objectives including increasing rates of mishandled baggage, delays and cancellations as well as soaring airfares.

Skytrax’s World Airlines Awards is known for being the Oscars of the aviation industry. The awards are based on surveys of more than 20 million travelers across 100 nationalities. Singapore Airlines took this year’s top spot away from Qatar Airways.

Qantas concedes that its operational performance was way below par but insists that its performance markers have steadily improved since the Skytrax surveys took place. However the problem for Qantas is that the damage to its brand and reputation will take time to restore.

Just recently Qantas plunged 31 places to be Australia’s 40th most trusted brand. Restoring Qantas’ brand is going to be a major challenge for new CEO Vanessa Hudson when she steps into the role in November.
